Sarah Burton: Wedding dress design was an honour

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Sarah Burton says designing Kate Middletons wedding dress was the experience of a lifetime.

Kate married Britains Prince William at Westminster Abbey in London this morning. There had been many rumours about who would create her gown after the engagement was announced last week, with Alexander McQueen designer Sarah Burton long thought to be the frontrunner.

Today it was revealed she did create the gown, which was ivory and white with lace applique, a full skirt and lengthy trim measuring 2m. 70cm.

Sarah is thrilled to have made the dress and loved every second of the work.

It has been the experience of a lifetime to work with Catherine Middleton to create her wedding dress, and I have enjoyed every moment of it, she said.

"It was such an incredible honour to be asked, and I am so proud of what we and the Alexander McQueen team have created.

"I am delighted that the dress represents the best of British craftsmanship. Alexander McQueen's designs are all about bringing contrasts together to create startling and beautiful clothes and I hope that by marrying traditional fabrics and lacework, with a modern structure and design, we have created a beautiful dress for Catherine on her wedding day."

Sarah added the design process was shrouded in secrecy, which she could completely appreciate.

Understandably, Catherine has been very keen to keep the details of her dress a secret, which is every bride's prerogative, and we gave an undertaking to keep our role confidential until the day of the wedding, she said in a statement.

William and Kate are currently at Buckingham Palace with the rest of the royal family where they are posing for official photographs. (C) Cover Media
