Schwarzenegger home becomes museum

4th August 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Arnold Schwarzenegger's childhood home has been turned into a museum.

The Hollywood star has given his blessing for the Austrian apartment in which he grew up in to be opened for public viewings.

The 64-year-old lived in the property in the village of Thal between 1947 and 1966.

It was a modest home that had no electricity or running water and operated a pit toilet.

"This is where he first started to dream of success," curator Peter Urdl told the BBC.

Visitors can wander around and see the former Mr Universe's old workout equipment, including his first set of dumbbells.

The display also includes the action star's childhood bed and mementos from his movie career.

The exhibition boasts a sword from the set of Conan, a Harley Davidson motorbike from the Terminator series and a lifesize model of the action hero in his role as the Cyborg assassin in the movie.

While the museum covers Arnold's time as the governor of California, it doesn't touch on his recent love child scandal.

Last month, his estranged wife Maria Shriver filed for divorce after it was revealed that he had fathered a child with a member of staff over ten years ago. (C) Cover Media
