Shabana Azmi to be honoured with 'Icon of Indian Cinema award'

Activist actress Shabana Azmi to be honoured with the Icon of Indian Cinema Award at the 2017 Jagran Film Festival, that proceeds to its eight edition will be held in Mumbai next week. According to sources, the film festival will held on September 24, 2017 in the presence of Indian film fraternity members. Manoj Srivastava, the film Festival's strategic consultant said, "It's a matter of pride for the Festival that such a great actor who hasn't perhaps got her due as yet, is being honoured with the 'Icons of Indian Cinema Award."

The 66-years-old actress has featured in films like 'Shatranj Ke Khiladi', 'Ankur', 'Nishant', 'Arth' and emerged as one of the astonishing actresses in Indian Cinema. She has done her fair share of mainstream films too.

Azmi is the only actress who holds the record of wining five National Awards in the Best Actress category. She debuted the award tally from her very first film, 'Ankur' in 1974 and then continued the winning streak with her performance in films like 'Arth' (1982), 'Khandhar' (1983), 'Paar' (1984) and 'Godmother' (1998).

The Jagran Film Festival began in Delhi before moving on with the journey to cities like Kanpur, Lucknow, Dehradun, Bhopal, Varanasi, Patna, Ranchi, Meerut and Indore. The film festival will further proceed to Mumbai between 18-24 September.
