(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Snoop Dogg will hit TV screens in an upcoming comedy series.

The American hip hop star is set to produce and star in a new family-oriented sitcom on US network NBC.

According to a recent report from Deadline, the project has "landed at NBC with a script commitment", with Snoop slated to play the leading role of the father in the yet-untitled comedy series.

Snoop has teamed up with Don Reo, after the project was originally set up at Warner Bros. TV last month. Reo will executive produce the series, with Snoop and Ted Chung serving as producers alongside him.

Snoop has appeared on the small screen before.

The 39-year-old musician previously starred in his own E! reality series Snoop Dogg's Father Hood, which focused on his family life with his wife and three children.

He also worked with Reo on the Fox sitcom Brothers. The veteran producer created the show, while Snoop had a guest spot.

Despite his hugely successful career in the music industry, Snoop has decided to focus on his acting of late. The star was recently cast in the title role in the biopic The Legend of Fillmore Slim.
