Suriya’s super speech

24th August 2011

Suriya became the cynosure of all eyes at a one-day hunger strike organized in Chennai on Tuesday by the Tamil film industry, expressing solidarity to anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare, who is on a fast in New Delhi for the past eight days, pressing for a strong Lokpal Bill.

“It feels great and wonderful to see the movement against corruption. We should not let the momentum die. Jan Lokpal makes lots of sense. Sustainability is important,” said Suriya, who joined the token fast in Chennai to support the social activist.

He added that the protest by Anna Hazare is making its presence felt not just in India, but all over the world. “People everywhere need a change. This is the right time for that. Corruption should go away for sure,” Suriya said.

Cheran, A R Murugadoss, Rohini and a large number of Kollywood citizens were on fast for Anna, with Superstar Rajinikanth expressing his support with a statement. “I am very happy that we have a very able and dedicated leader in Anna Hazare to lead us in this fight against corruption. This kind of peaceful movement is possible only in India which is the birthplace of Satyagraha,” the top star said.

The numero uno actor of the Tamil film industry added: “I congratulate all the Indians who have lent their support to this bloodless revolution. I am very proud to be an Indian.”
