Sushmita Sen turns 37 as she celebrates her birthday today. The gorgeous model and actress became popular after winning the Miss Universe Pageant. Today, she is one of the most stylish and glamorous ladies India looks upto.

Sen was born in a Bengali family in Hyderabad. She was raised there and attended St. Ann's High School in Secunderabad.

In 1994, as a teenager, Sush took part in the Miss India Pageant and won, beating Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. In the same year she went on to participate in the Miss Universe Pageant and won that as well, becoming the first Indian beating many beauties from around the world.

After reigning the world of the beauty pageants for sometime, Sushmita later moved onto acting in Bollywood. She started her career with the movie 'Dastak'. She later did quite a few movies in Hindi and one in Tamil too. She has won a few awards as well for her performance as a supporting actress.

On a personal front, Sushmita is a single mother. She adopted two daughters Renee and Alishah in the year 2000 and 2010.

The actress is also a president of the 'I Am She - Miss Universe India' contest, a platform for representatives to take part at the annually held Miss Universe Pageant.
