The Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners’ Association has announced that all cinema halls in the state will be closed for a day on December 15th to express solidarity with the government of Tamil Nadu on the Mullaiperiyar dam row.
According to R Panneerselvam, general secretary of the association, the theatre owners would also go on a fast protest on that day, pressing the rights of Tamil Nadu in the dam issue.
'All the unions in the film industry will join the stir. We want to express feelings of the people of Tamil Nadu to both Kerala and the Union government. We urge the Centre to step in immediately and sort out the issue in the genuine interests of the farmers of the State,' he said.
The closure of the 1,450 screens for a day will result in the loss of an estimated Rs 10 crore, Panneerselvam said.
