Taylor Swift: I can take criticism

19th October 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Taylor Swift says a million people have a million different opinions about her music, which can be really hard to handle.

The American singer is currently promoting her new album Speak Now, which is set for worldwide release on October 25. She is very happy with the record, and poured a lot of her own experiences into the songs she wrote.

The 20-year-old is still coming to terms with her fame, and with the way it affects her everyday life. She finds it strange that so many people have views on what she does and the songs she writes, but tries not to let it get to her. When you do what I do, which is you put yourself out there for a lot of people to say whatever they want... there's a million different opinions from a million different people, she explained. I get that, no matter what, you're going to be criticised for something.

The sixth track on Speak Now is called Mean, and is about the way some people discuss Taylors music. The star admits it hurts when nasty comments are made about her tracks, but she thinks it says more about those who say them than about her musical abilities.

But I also get that there are different kinds of ways to criticise someone. There's constructive criticism, there's professional criticism - and then there's just being mean. And there's a line that you cross when you just start to attack everything about a person, she told E! News. And theres one guy man who crossed the line over and over again of just being mean.

Taylor hopes the song will speak to people of all ages, and in many different situations. She knows the experience of having someone constantly being nasty is common, and wants to show its best to ignore negativity.

This happens no matter what you do, how old you are what your job is what you place is in life, theres always going to be someone who is just mean to you, she said. And dealing with that is all you can control, how you handle it. And this song is about how I handle it and my mindset about the whole situation. (C) Cover Media
