Thackeray brings a halt to the film industry

16th November 2012

Amid the reports of Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray's deteriorating health, the film industry decided to call off most of its shoots. The otherwise busy film studios in the city, wore a deserted look and actors voluntarily chose to halt their shoots.

Ram Gopal Varma, who was shooting his film on '26/11', filmmaker Karan Johar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali who was shooting for Ram Leela cancelled their shootings. Akshay Kumar too cancelled the day's shoot of his new production venture. A number of television serials and reality shows were also put on hold.

"Shooting was scheduled to go for few of our shows today but we don't know what the situation is. There are few artists who have voluntarily decided against shooting," said a source from an entertainment channel.

Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar also postponed her function. "I am extremely disturbed and concerned about the critical health of Shri Balasaheb Thackeray. In view of this, I am postponing the function of my music company to a later date. My prayers are with Balasaheb and the entire Thackeray family." she posted on her microbogging page.

"Many workers of various departments are members of the Shiv Sena union. They wouldn't report to work with their leader being critical. And it's not possible to shoot without the minimum required people in departments like lighting, setting, etc. So, all shooting has come to a halt in Mumbai", the source added.

Celebs like Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek BachchanSalman Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Mithun Chakraborthy, Rishi Kapoor, Randhir KapoorMadhur Bhandarkar and Manoj Kumar were spotted at the Thackeray residence, paying a visit to the leader.
