The Lucky one ain't going to be so lucky...

By Priyanka Ketkar

She wants to break free, she so badly wants to re-live but something is stopping her... Her fear for her ex-husband or her love for her son... Such pain, such turmoil and so much to express; The Lucky One has many such moments and Taylor Schilling and Zac Efron make sure to make us feel everything they go through.

The moments are beautiful, the emotions are well-expressed yet all this is amidst a lot of absurdity revolving around the theme of "Luck" or should I say "The Lucky One".

Logan (Zac), a Marine, has seen his buddies die and many more innocent lives taken in his time he served in Iraq. This has left him traumatized but there is one more reason to this...his guilt of surviving whereas his friends had to die. And the reason he is still alive is an abandoned photograph of Beth (Taylor Schilling). Upon returning from the battle, Logan's sole aim is to find and thank the girl from the picture. Once he finds her though, he ends up falling for her and vice versa.

Zac Efron and Taylor Schilling in The Lucky OneAn affair, a divorce, a death... There is a lot to deal with for them and for us. But the many senseless parts in it get you exasperated. The beautiful location...the bridge, the wooden house and all the cute dogs will create the necessary romantic setting. What is missing though is a string of logical events. Although it starts off pretty well, towards the end it simply becomes too romantic, fantasy-like and silly.

Zac Effron is good but the actor can do much better which he is already proved in his High School Musical series. Taylor Schilling is beautiful and each and everything she emotes is heart-touching. Riley Thomas Stewart as little Ben is fun to watch and so is grandmom Blythe Danner.

The film is romantic yes, but is also full of cliches and is absolutely predictable. But that is I guess the essence of the "typical" romantic chick flicks.

Nicholas Sparks fans will surely have a great time here but for others only two words to define The Lucky One- Chick Flick. Now you decide!
