Tim Robbins: My midlife crisis is over

23rd September 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Tim Robbins admits having a mid-life crisis, but is thankful he avoided the red Corvette sports car.

The 51-year-old is best known as a top Hollywood actor, although he has now made his debut album, entitled Tim Robbins and the Rogues Gallery Band.

Tim famously split from his long-term partner, actress Susan Sarandon, last year. He admits he did experience a minor breakdown, but says he is now fully recovered.

I would hope that existential nightmare is over, he laughed in an interview with British newspaper The Daily Telegraph, joking that he never purchased a flashy sports car in the way some men do when they feel they are getting old.

I think it is. But well see. Im just happy to have avoided the red Corvette sports car.

Despite admitting he has experienced a difficult period lately, Tim insists his record shouldnt be considered a commentary on his relationship with Susan. The musician says the album deals with various events he experienced before they parted ways. Its not a divorce album. Its pre-divorce, he explained.

There is some ambiguity over what has inspired many of the songs on the album, although there is one, Time To Kill, which deals directly with the situation in Iraq. Tim famously opposed America going to war with the middle-eastern country, and says that whenever he goes to bars war veterans engage him in conversations on the subject.

I cant stand hotel rooms, so wherever Im working, I try to go out, bring my guitar with me and find places to play. Inevitably, at any bar, an Iraq veteran would come up to me, said Tim.

One particularly poignant encounter led him to write the song, which is sung as an Iraq veterans confession that he worries about the death of innocent children. (C) Cover Media
