Tina Fey: TV is kinder to actresses than movies

15th October 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Tina Fey thinks women arent as prevalent as men in movies as they are stuck at home raising kids.

The actress/screenwriter has had a hugely successful career in movies and television, as well as having a happy home life with her husband Jeff Richmond and their five-year-old daughter Alice Zenobia.

Despite managing to pull off being a mother and a career woman, Tina thinks many women arent encouraged to work in films as they are expected to look after their family.

For whatever reason it does seem a little harder for women to break through in the movies in the same way that men have. I sort of think its because the women who would go see those movies are stuck at home raising kids, she told Total Film magazine.

Tina argues its always easier for ladies to get ahead on the small screen as television producers are more open to female stars. The talented actress also revealed some of her favourite comedy heroines, saying women like 70s sketch star Gilda Radner really inspired her.

There have been so many; there really wasnt a shortage of them. Gilda Radner, Jane Curtin, Lily Tomlin, Mary Tyler Moore... replied Tina when asked which funny women she liked as a youngster.

There has always been a lot of very strong female comedians around. TV has always been kinder to women. (C) Cover Media
