(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Tom Cruise has reportedly been getting some musical tips from Jon Bon Jovi to prepare for his new movie role.

The Hollywood star will play ageing heavy metal musician Stacee Jaxx in film Rock of Ages, the big-screen adaptation of the hit Broadway musical. He will be required to perform a number of popular rock songs from the 70s and 80s, including Styx's Renegade and Bon Jovi's classic Wanted Dead or Alive.

In order to hone his singing skills and deliver a convincing rendition of the Bon Jovi track, Tom met up with the bands frontman in New York on Tuesday night.

The pair were seen enjoying dinner together at Il Cantinori and it is believed Jon was advising Tom on his performance. They were joined by their wives, Dorothea Bon Jovi and Katie Holmes.

It was recently revealed Tom has been taking lessons with the vocal coach who worked with Axl Rose.

"He's been studying with - seriously - Axl Rose's voice teacher like five hours a day," Rock of Ages director Adam Shankman said last week. "The prognosis is more than excellent."

Tom and Katie were also spotted watching the Green Day musical American Idiot on Broadway on Tuesday afternoon. (C) Cover Media
