Tom Selleck reveals Magnum doubts

26th August 2012

Tom Selleck is reluctant to reprise his role in Magnum, P.I. because he fears "harming the legacy".

The actor is perhaps best known for playing private investigator Thomas Magnum in the popular 80s TV series. While shows such as Dallas have recently returned to the small screen, Tom isn't sure about resurrecting his famous character.

"Not too good. First I can't put on my old Hawaii shirt ...," he told German newspaper Hamburger Morgenpost when asked about the likelihood of Magnum, P.I. making a return. "I am proud to have made Magnum an icon and I don't want to harm his legacy."

When asked if receiving $1 million to appear in the show would make him reconsider, Tom joked that he is "known for changing [his] opinion".

The 67-year-old actor also divulged what happened to his character's famous Hawaiian shirt.

"I bequeathed it to the National Museum in Washington," he revealed, before explaining his reluctance to reprise the role. "Teenagers are usually hired for remakes and the original cast are only handed foolish guest appearances."

Tom is currently starring in TV police drama Blue Bloods.
