Top 10 Kollywood hits of the year 2011

FridayMoviez brings to you the movies which held the audiences to the edge of their seats. These are the top 10 films of year 2011 in Kollywood.

1) Mankatha - Ajith Kumar's action thriller film, which was based on betting and match fixing scandals at IPL was one of the top grossers of the year. The film which was released in several countries has foot stomping dance numbers , by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Directed by Venkat Prabhu and produced by Dhayanidhi Alagiri, Ajith's impeccable acting was appreciated by one and all.

2) Ko - Set against the backdrop of the existing Naxal issue actor Jiiva gave a path-breaking performance. This movie a political drama was termed as a stylish commercial entertainer was directed by K. V Anand and music was given the infamous Harris Jayaraj. This film also marks to be  

3) Engeyum Eppodhum - A romantic drama which sent across a message of road safety in the climax was directed by debutante director M. Saravanan. The movie which was set in Chennai and Tiruchi showed actors Jai- Anjali & Sarva- Ananya in the lead roles . The movie was appreciated for it's clearly sketched script and perfect characterization.

4) Mayakkam Enna - Directed by stalwart Selvaraghavan and kollywood's top stars Dhanush and Richa Gangopadhyay, this romantic drama was also appreciated by the audiences. The music composed by G.V Prakash Kumar, has been termed as intoxicating.This movie happens to mark the debut of actress Richa Gangopadhyay.

5) Kanchana - Produced, directed,written and enacted by Raghava Lawrence this film provided the much needed comic capers needed to a list of ruled by drama films. The horror-comedy film was a hit amongst the masses for Raghava's perfect comic timing.

6) Velayudham - Vijay along with actresses Genelia D'souza and Hansika Motwani was a successful film with elements of both action, drama and comedy. The movie which released at Diwali time was named a complete family entertainer.

7) 7aam Arivu - This movie a science-fiction thriller saw big names associated with it. Directed by A. R. Murugadoss, produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin, with top actor Suriya and Shruti Haasan in lead roles, this movie though rumoured to be inspired from "Inception" enthralled the audiences with it's out-of-box concept and storyline.

8) Siruthai - This film a remake of Telegu "Vikramarkudu" saw actor Karthi in a dual role . This film under the direction of Siva, and written by S. S. Rajamouli, became known as a masala film and was declared a hit.

9) Aadukalam - Yet another Dhanush film makes it to the list. The movie highlighting a social evil which also won 6 national awards was directed and written by Kollywood stalwart Vetrimaran.

10) Vaanam - A remake of Telegu film Vedam, this film is also a multi-starrer shows 5 different stories all inter-related to each other . Yuvan Shankar Raja's music for this film has been considered as one his brilliant compositions. Director Krish's path breaking direction was praised by audiences and the critics.

All in all the year 2011 was a year of blockbusters. The audiences weren't disappointed with any films nor the theatre owners. Inspite of this year having most of it's big holidays fall on sundays the audiences still managed to throng the theatres to watch the films. This year served as a treat to all movie buffs.

2012 promises to be an even bigger year for Kollywood as some of the most talked about movies will be releasing this year.  "3", "Nanban", "Vettai",  "Karikalan", "Billa 2", "Maatraan", "Vettai Mannan", "Vishwaroopam", "Rana", "Samaran".
