(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Tyler Perry was thrilled to watch Whoopi Goldberg at work in the making of For Colored Girls.
The 41-year-old director and screenwriter worked with 55-year-old movie star Whoopi on the film, which is based on the Ntozake Shange play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf.
The film sees women portraying characters from different poems, and for director Tyler working with Whoopi was a dream as he had admired her since watching her in the 1985 film The Color Purple, which followed the life and trials of a young African American woman.
He also recalls watching the actress receive her Academy Award for the movie Ghost and feeling immensely proud.
First of all, Whoopi was nominated twice for Academy Awards and won one and I grew up watching her. She was in one of my favourite movies, which was A Colour Purple, and watching her at work every day... he gushed.
Tyler was hugely impressed by Whoopis performance in For Coloured Girls. The director recalled one incident in the shooting of a scene with Whoopi and Thandie Newton where the entire crew were blown away.
Theres one scene that she finished with she and Thandie and shes on the floor and she stands up and I say cut and the whole crew applaud, they all applauded the work. Thats all I can say about Whoopi Goldberg, he added. (C) Cover Media
