Actor Uday Chopra recently expressed his views on marijuana via his official twitter handle and the actor wrote about characteristics of the herb in a positive way. Uday tweeted "I feel India should legalize marijuana. Firstly, It's part of our culture. Secondly, I think if legalized and taxed it can be a huge revenue source. Not to mention it will remove the criminal element associated with it. Plus and most importantly it has a lot of medical benefits!"
That's quite a bold way to be expressive on a sensitive subject of drug, his point here earned many likes and retweets. However, this was countered by Mumbai Police's official twitter handle making the actor remember the law & regulations of our country.
Mumbai Police replied to Uday's tweet and said "Sir,as citizen of India, you are privileged to express your view on a public platform. Be mindful,as of now, consumption, possession and transportation of marijuana, invites harsh punishment as per provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act,1985. Spread the Word."
This was indeed an unnecessary clash as the anology by the actor was merely a suggestion. Chopra even had a backlash with quite a few users who disagreeded with him. Replying to one of them he said, "So your argument is that don't make it legal cause everyone will be stoned. Wonder why the same reasoning didnt stop people from legalising alcohol #Flawed."
