History, 'His Story'

What we read as history may not always be the truth. There could be some incidents untold, certain facts twisted and a few things incomplete.

This idea could have given the spark to Santosh Sivan, an ace cinematographer of Indian cinema, to come out with 'Urumi'. We all know Vasco Da Gama, the Portugese sailor who came to India. Sivan shows in 'Urumi' some unknown things that happened during his trip.

The film, which is dubbed from Malayalam (by Kalaipuli S. Thanu) has a huge array of stars doing the lead roles. The list includes Prithviraj, Prabhu Deva, Vidya Balan, Arya, Tabu, Nithya Menon and Genelia D'Souza among others.

Kelu Rayanar (Prithviraj) wants to take revenge on Vasco Da Gama for being the reason behind the death of his father Sedurayyan (Arya). His close friend Vavvali (Prabhu Deva) gives all support to Rayanar.

Rayanar and Vavvali meet Aracckal Ayesha (Genelia), a brave woman who fights the foreigners. She joins the mission of the duo and the trio wage a war against those who try to invade India.

Prithviraj comes out with his best performance till date, while Prabhu Deva is impressive. Genelia stuns us with her acting skills and she resembles a warrior aptly. Others in the case are adequate.

Cinematography and music (by Deepak Dev) form the backbone of 'Urumi', for these two things take us to a bygone era. Aided strongly by a good script, sound technical backup and talented actors, Santosh Sivan comes out in flying colours in 'Urumi'.

Do watch it for an interesting storyline and the way it is treated by the team.
