Veteran Actress Sujatha Passes Away

Kollywood actress Sujatha, who has appeared in over 300 films, died of heart failure, at her residence in Chennai on Wednesday. Sujatha was 58 years old and had been ailing from acute health problems for the past few months. The cremation ceremony of the veteran actress was performed at the Kilpakkam crematorium in Chennai on Thursday

Known for her natural acting style, Sujatha's acting tenure, spanned over four decades, and included her working in the Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi Film Industriues.

She started her career at the age of 14 debuting in the Malayalam film, 'Tabaswini'. Later K Balachander introduced her to the Tamil audience through 'Aval Oru Thodar Kathai', in 1974. She acted alongside almost all top yesteryear's heroes including Sr. NTR, ANR, Sobhan Babu, Krishna, Murali Mohan, Mohan Babu, Krishnam Raju, Chiranjeevi, Rajanikanth and Kamal Haasan.

Some of her memorable Telugu films include 'Gorintaku', 'Guppedu Manasu', 'Yedanthasthula Meda', 'Prema Tarangalu', 'Bahadoorapu Batasari', 'Sandhya' and 'Soothradharulu'. Her last Telugu was 'Sree Ramadasu'.

She also gave some memorable performances in supporting roles and won a Nandi award for her performance in the Venkatesh starrer 'Chanti'.

Sujatha was born in Sri Lanka, on the 10th of December, 1952 and was raised in Kerala.
