Vivienne Westwood: Dont buy new clothes

20th September 2010

(Cover) - EN Fashion - Dame Vivienne Westwood has advised her fans not to buy new clothes for six months.

The eccentric British fashion designer unveiled her Spring/Summer 2011 Red Label collection at the ongoing London Fashion Week yesterday. Despite showcasing a host of stylish garments, Vivienne says she doesnt actually want to advocate consumerism.

The veteran designer also warned shoppers they should be recycling clothes in order to help the environment.

"Don't buy anything new for six months and recycle your clothes," she told Sky News.

Vivienne thinks people should be far more careful when theyre shopping and only make purchases if they are certain they will get good use out of a garment. "My message is choose well and buy less," she explained.

Its not the first time Vivienne has asked fashion fans to consider the implications of treating themselves to new clothes before splashing the cash. At London Fashion Week last February she explained the world should be more important to people than wearing the latest trends.

Why not protect this gift of life while we have it? I don't take the attitude that destruction is inevitable. Some of us would like to stop that and help people survive, she said. (C) Cover Media
