Whitney Houston movie previews

26th April 2012

Whitney Houston's upcoming movie was shown to theatre owners at the CinemaCon conference in Las Vegas last night.

The late singer's last big screen outing was in a remake of the drama Sparkle. Whitney plays the mother of three girls in a musical group who struggle to cope with the trappings of fame.

The film was previewed on Wednesday night, and showed her on the big screen with her co-stars Jordin Sparks and Cee Lo Green.

Sparkle - which also saw Whitney serve as an executive producer - was seen as a comeback vehicle for the star. Her career had faltered in recent years due to her struggle with drug and alcohol dependency.

Whitney died in a Beverly Hills hotel on February 11, aged 48.

Meanwhile, Whitney's ex-husband Bobby Brown has avoided jail time for drink driving after making a plea bargain with prosecutors.

The 43-year-old singer was arrested last month in California. He had been pulled over for talking on his cell phone while behind the wheel but then failed four sobriety tests after officers suspected he had been drinking. He was arrested for DUI and driving with a suspended licence. Bobby was later released on $5,000 bail.

According to TMZ, Bobby pleaded no-contest to a charge of getting behind the wheel with a blood alcohol content of .08 or higher - which led prosecutors to drop the DUI charge.

Bobby was reportedly sentenced to 36 months of summary probation and one day in county jail. He served this time after his arrest.

He also has to complete a 90-day alcohol program.
