(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Zooey Deschanel and her husband have broken up.

The 31-year-old New Girl actress and her musician husband Ben Gibbard, 35, are ending their marriage two years after tying the knot.

Zooey and the Death Cab for Cutie frontman wed near Seattle, Washington, in September 2009 but have now decided to separate although it does not appear to be on bad terms.

"It was mutual and amicable," a source told Us Weekly. "There was no third party involved."

The star's representative has confirmed they are no longer together.

Back in September Gibbard spoke about how he pursued the actress to New York magazine.

"I'd seen her movies and obviously I thought she was very beautiful," Ben gushed. "I was just awestruck that she was even talking to me."

Zooey gave an insight into her marriage recently when she spoke about it being "definitely hard" spending time apart from her husband when he was away on tour but that they tried to make it work.

"He's really good at calling," she explained. "He's probably better than I am. He's a very conscientious person."

Zooey, who is also in her own band She and Him, never recorded music professionally with her rocker husband but they sometimes performed on stage together. (C) Cover Media
