November 29, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Several rock and pop bands from France have rounded up on Ahmedabad as the chosen city to perform in concerts. If reports are to be believed, the New Year may bring in an earful for the residents of the Indian city as French bands have decided to hold concerts in Ahmedabad starting January 7. While trumpeter Erik Truffaz will be in the city in January, Danyel Waro, the best performer at the WOMEX festival held in Copenhagen this year October, will play for the Amdavadis in the month of March.
And if this was not enough sponsors Alliance Francaise are also planning to rope in rock groups Betty Argo and Kwak and jazz group Fada in February to keep the Ahmedabad residents on their feet this New Year. So what is the reason behind the sudden influx of French music artistes to India in the coming year? In a statement made to the media, Philippe Martin, the Director of Alliance Francaise says that India is a music loving nation and no one is ignorant about the fact. But what comes as a surprise to us is that Ahmedabad was chosen leaving aside metropolitan cities like Delhi and Mumbai. Philippe Martin explains that the Amdavadis are very open to different kinds of music and that is why the endeavor on the part of Alliance Francaise.
Therefore, it will be a French musical bonanza for Ahmedabad in 2011. What is to be seen is whether there is a rise in the sale of French albums from music shelves following the French bands performances.
