A. R Rahman's music to go on air

A popular German orchestra and students of K M Conservatory, a music school backed by A R Rahman, will perform songs composed by the Oscar-Grammy winner in Chennai today, on the account of the country’s' Republic Day.

The event is part of a music concert series being organised to celebrate the 60 years of diplomatic relations between India and Germany. The title is ‘Classic Incantations - The German Film Orchestra Babelsberg performs A. R. Rahman.’

Earlier, the orchestra conducted similar events in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata. The Chennai event today will be held at Mutha Venkata Subba Rao auditorium at Chetpet at 7 pm.

Speaking to reporters recently, Rahman said, 'I am excited and grateful to Babelsberg orchestra for their gesture. There won’t be any song, dance or ‘Jai Ho’ kind of stuff! It’s purely orchestral rendition by Babelsberg from K.M. Conservatory.'

'We will create a new high point for music lovers across India through these concerts. I hope to inspire youngsters to take up music composing in a big way through these concerts,' added Rahman.
