Akshay Kumar's 'Special 26' is very guarded and has been kept completely under wraps. The entire team has taken a lot of effort in keeping the news underground on what the film is about.
Officially, 'Special 26' is an edgy gritty heist drama and the makers are highlighting that the film is based on the real-life daring heist dated 19-Mar-1987 where an unknown man posing as CBI officer Mon Singh recruited 26 men and executed a daylight raid on the Opera House branch of Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri in Mumbai, and disappeared with jewellery worth lakhs.
The unit is trying to underplay the role of Akshay Kumar which is based on Mithilesh Kumar Srivastava, better known as Natwarlal.
As the folklore goes, Natwarlal was a famous Indian con man known for repeatedly selling the Taj Mahal, the Red Fort along with Rashtrapati Bhavan. Till the very end, no one was able to catch him. And even if caught he would escape. He remains a mystery even in his death.
Like Natwarlal, Akshay Kumar uses a lot of aliases and a master of disguises to dupe people.
Directed by Neeraj Pandey of 'A Wednesday' fame it has Akshay Kumar, Manoj Bajpai, Jimmy Shergill, and Anupam Kher in pivotal roles.
