What a better day could it be than the Republic Day to announce the release date of Akshay Kumar's much-awaited period drama 'Kesari' based on one of the bravest battle ever fought named 'Battle of Saragarhi' dated back in the year 1897.

A true tale where 21 Sikh soldiers of the 36th Sikhs (now the 4th battalion of the Sikh Regiment), who was stationed at an army post and were attacked by around 10,000 Afghans. The Sikhs, led by Havildar Ishar Sing fought till the last breath and is one of the bravest stands in the history of wars. Akshay has stepped in the shoes of Havildar Ishar Singh and he has shared a new still from the film including the 21 Sikhs posing all together armed up in their vintage uniform.

Sharing the still, Akshay wrote, "Happy Republic Day. It's our #70thRepublicDay but our men have been fighting for the country since time unknown. 122 years ago, 21 Sikhs fought against 10000 invaders.#KESARI is their story, in cinemas on March 21."

While speaking about the film Akshay had earlier said, "I've started shooting for my film 'Kesari', where I’m in the heaviest turban and beard I've ever had to wear. So I shaved my head to make my life a little easier. I’m known for hating wigs, prosthetics and so on, and 'Kesari' is quite demanding. It’s probably my favourite look, though it’s taxing to fight and sweat in this avatar. But I wouldn’t change it for the world."
