(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Alex Reid sought help from an intuitive counsellor when his home life got tough.
The mixed martial artist married British glamour model Katie Price also known as Jordan - in February 2010. There was almost constant speculation their relationship was on the rocks towards the end of last year, and in January the pair confirmed they had split.
Alex has now admitted he took time out of the spotlight to spend four days at a spiritual retreat at the end of last year. The 35-year-old was speaking at the book launch of Jules Williams The Weigh Forward, and admitted the one-on-one sessions with celebrity counsellor Jules were tough at times, and really tested his mental and emotional state of mind.
It was a four day retreat. We had one-to-one sessions which were really intense. I felt great afterwards, he told Cover Media for new! magazine. I went to see Jules when things got bad at home. My intuition told me to go and see him.
The cage-fighter is renowned for his belief in the spiritual world. Despite his tough exterior, he has always had a fascination with the subconscious and the deeper reasons which cause certain emotions. Alex trusted his instinct when he realised he was struggling with his life.
Im very spiritual and believe that everyone needs improving. My reasons for going were personal to me. Ive focused on the physical and spent time on my body but sometimes we forget about the spiritual side. Ive always had a fascination with the subconscious and going deeper, he explained. You know Mr Miyagi in Karate Kid? That stuff really works!
As well as being in tune with his spiritual side, the cage fighter also has a strong physical presence. In 1996, Alex enlisted with the tenth Volunteer Battalion of the Parachute Regiment, a territorial Army unit based in London and spent three years training as a recruit before being discharged.
I was in the paratroopers for a few years but I left because I didnt want to kill people.
Im a placid guy. I cant remember the last time I had a fight. My martial arts and cage fighting is different because Im competing. Its a sport, he explained. (C) Cover Media
