(Cover) - EN Fashion - A memorial service in honour of Alexander McQueen took place today.
The fashion designer killed himself at his London apartment in February this year. He was thought to have been depressed about the death of his mother and struggling with pressure at work, and had taken a cocktail of drugs.
Stars including Kate Moss, Sarah Jessica Parker, Naomi Campbell and Stella McCartney were among those who attended the ceremony at Londons St Paul's Cathedral today. The service was timed to coincide with the ongoing London Fashion Week.
Kate wore a leather dress with a deep V neckline, a black blazer and high heels to the ceremony. Naomi opted for a coat made of black feathers and high boots, while Sarah Jessica paired her white dress with a knee-length coat and black heels.
Other attendees included Daphne Guinness, designer Pam Hogg and US editor of Vogue magazine Anna Wintour. While most chose to dress sombrely, the occasional flash of tartan a staple in Alexanders designs could be seen.
Alexander was born in London. He started making dresses for his three sisters as a child and left school aged 16 to pursue a career in fashion.
After a stint in Italy, he returned to England and studied for a Masters degree in fashion design at Londons prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.
In 1996, he was appointed the head designer at Givenchy, where he worked in until March 2001. He then founded his own eponymous label and won countless awards. He went on to be awarded a CBE, as well as being named International Designer of the Year at the Council of Fashion Designer Awards. (C) Cover Media
