Amy Winehouse found dead

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Amy Winehouse has been found dead at her London apartment.

The troubled British singer, who had a long-running battle with drugs and alcohol, was discovered this afternoon in Camden, North London, after the London Ambulance Service was called to the property.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police confirmed a 27-year-old woman had died, adding they are treating the death as "unexplained".

"Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05hrs today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased," the statement added. "On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Enquiries continue into the circumstances of the death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained."

Her father Mitch Winehouse, who previously publicly expressed concerns for his daughter's health, has been informed. He is believed to have been on his way to New York when he received the news and is now reported to be returning to the UK.

Earlier this week, Amy was seen with her goddaughter Dionne Bromfield as the young teenager took to the stage at the iTunes festival.

Just last month, the singer was forced to cut short a European tour after she appeared on stage in Serbia looked confused and slurring her words. Her manager later announced the star would be retiring "indefinitely" until she cleaned up her life.

Before her series of shows kicked off, Amy spent a week at The Priory clinic in London, with her representative explaining she had "embarked on a treatment programme" to ensure she was ready for performances in Europe this summer.

The singer famously previously stayed at The Priory on occasions between 2007 and 2009.

Amy received widespread critical acclaim with her debut album Frank, released in 2003. However, her 2006 follow-up, Back to Black, saw her win a host of awards and attracted fans all over the world.
