(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Amy Winehouse's goddaughter says unflattering photographs often make the songstress appear drunk.
Amy spokesperson last month announced she would be withdrawing from her scheduled summer performances after she was booed at a concert in Serbia for appearing confused on stage, with claims she had been drinking backstage.
The star had spent a week at The Priory clinic in London before the show, and it had been thought she would be ready to return to the stage, although her spokesperson explained after Serbia that she would be concentrating on returning "to her best".
Amy's 15-year-old goddaughter Dionne, who has followed in the star's footsteps as a soul singer, has argued that much of the time unflattering paparazzi shots are to blame for Amy appearing under the influence of alcohol.
"All it takes is for her to blink while the press are flashing cameras and it looks like she's drunk. It's not like that at all," Dionne told the August issue of Britain's Company magazine.
Dionne, whose second album Good for the Soul is currently doing well in the UK charts, enjoys nothing more than hanging out with Amy, 27. She says they often "paint our nails together" or watch television show My Name Is Earl, because Amy "loves that".
Amy has acted as a mentor for Dionne, whose debut album, Introducing Dionne Bromfield, was released back in 2009 via Amy's Lioness Records label. Dionne added that Amy should never be a judge on a programme such as televised singing competition The X Factor as she's too nice.
"She tried to be scary once but failed! She said, Dionne, come into my office,' which was actually her bedroom, and she suddenly tried to be all strict! I told her, Amy, please don't ever become a judge on The X Factor because you'll so fail!'" laughed Dionne.
"She calls me Big Sister, which is silly because she's twice my age. But she says I give her more advice than she gives me, so she's the little sis." (C) Cover Media
