Andrew Garfield: I cheated accent

28th June 2012

Andrew Garfield prides himself on speaking like Britain's Queen Elizabeth II.

The actor portrays the iconic superhero in The Amazing Spider-Man and has to put on a US accent.

Andrew was born in Los Angeles as his father is from California, but grew up in the UK. He used his family connection to ensure his character's voice was just right.

"My dad still has an [American] accent, so I feel like I've had a nice cheat getting the accent right because I've had it in my ear all my life. But I try to be as true to the Queen's dialect as possible," he laughed.

The 28-year-old star enjoyed shooting The Amazing Spider-Man and met his girlfriend Emma Stone on set. He is preparing himself as he knows the movie is going to propel him into Hollywood stardom, which he is expecting to be a shock.

"You just put that in my head," he laughed to Look magazine, when quizzed on whether he is ready to be questioned about Spider-Man for the next decade.

"No, I haven't approached it like that. It's meant so much to me and I feel very lucky. It's every skinny boy's dream!"
