Barber Darbar in a Kannada film!!

13th July 2011
If all goes well, Sandalwood may soon have its own "Slumdog Millionnaire". Wait. The Hollywood film is not being remade into Kannada but a subject quite similar to the rags-to-riches story of the Oscar-winner potboiler is in the offing. Donning the director's hat is veteran producer-director Suresh Reddy who is back after a 12-year hiatus with "Kshourika Neenentha Saadhaka!" but the cynosure of all eyes at the Hotel Bell was Ramesh Babu, the Scissorshand, who owns only 60 cars including the Rs. 3.18 crore worth Rolls Royce and employs around 16 people at his three saloons at the Bowring Institute, Brigade Road and at the Chinnaswamy stadium premises.

Babu had to give up his studies and take up his father's profession at a very young age. A taunt by his uncle spurred the young man to buy his first car within a year and soon, he was on way to becoming a car collector. However, he put the cars to good use - he rent them out to his discerned clients and soon began his own travel agency. All the success and fame has not gone to his head and even to this day, he personally caters to 15 clients daily at the Institute.

Who inspires Ramesh Babu? Lewis Phillips, of the Mangalore harbour! Incidentally, Babu feels his luck changed after meeting this person! Interestingly, Suresh Reddy had written a script which was strikingly similar to the story of Ramesh Babu. When he found out about Babu, he met the barber gentleman and found that the story was different in one aspect - Ramesh Babu married the girl of his family's choice! Reddy has narrated the script to four top Kannada heroes already and says his film is a love story as well. He has engaged Ramesh Halbai to do the camerawork while Jnanesh will be responsible for editing the film. Suresh Reddy is now waiting for approval from the heroes to make another "Slumdog Millionaire" in Kannada!
