When talking about Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, one is at a loss of words as to where exactly should one begin... Aishwarya Rai Bachchan - the pretty green-eyed girl. She won everyone's hearts when she won the Miss World Pageant in 1994 and with her Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam in 1999, she really made everyone give out their hearts to her.
Aishwarya Rai, born in Karnataka, was schooled in Mumbai. She trained in classical dance and music for five years. This Bollywood Beauty's initial plans were medicine and architecture before she finally gave up academics to join modelling. As a child, she appeared in the Camlin Pencils ad when she was in her ninth grade. Her next stint with modelling was when a college professor took her pictures and got them published in a fashion magazine. In 2002, Aishwarya Rai appeared in Devdas which won her many awards and accolades including 10 Filmfare Awards and her second Filmfare Best Actress Award for her performance. But after this she again gave a series of flop films like Kuch Na Kaho, Shabd, The Mistress of Spices, etc... With Umrao Jaan, she again got back her old magic and Guru gave her the much needed recognition as an "actress", who is much more than just beautiful.
Throughout her career, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has received many awards. In October 2004 she was immortalised as a wax figure which is put on display in London's Madame Tussaud's wax museum. In June 2009 she was declared the Female Star of The Decade at the tenth International Indian Film Academy Awards, held in Macau.
She is also involved in a lot of Social work. She is the Brand Ambassador of The Eye Bank Association of India's nationwide campaign to promote eye donation in India. In 2009 Rai was appointed as the first Goodwill Ambassador of Smile Train, an international charity that provides free Cleft lip and palate surgery to children in need.
Aishwarya's personal life was always a cause for gossip and her link-ups with Salman Khan, Vivek Oberoi and the subsequent split-ups were made famous like none other. In 2007, Aishwarya Rai became Aishwarya Rai Bachchan when she got married to Abhishek Bachchan. This was one of the biggest marriages in the industry.
