(Cover) - EN Star Style - Carey Mulligan still doesnt feel confident smiling due to having braces on her teeth as a teenager.

The 25-year-old British actress gained international recognition starring as a naive schoolgirl who falls in love with an older man in 2009 film An Education.

She has since grown to become one of the most in-demand actresses in the industry, as well as making a name for herself as a fashion icon thanks to her demure red-carpet style.

Despite often being snapped by photographers at showbiz events and being placed on the best-dressed lists of top style magazines, Carey says she doesnt like having her picture taken as she still suffers from the insecurities she had as a youngster.

I had braces when I was a teenager and taught myself not to smile. I never deprogrammed myself. When theyre shouting, Smile, I get nervous. You dont want to see my smile! she laughed in an interview with British newspaper The Times.

I hate the cameras. Im not great at having my picture taken, full stop. If you look at photos of me when I was a kid, Im either pulling a horrible face or Im not engaging. (C) Cover Media
