Well everyone is now aware of the Anurag Kashyap's upcoming film 'Udta Punjab's whole nine yards story. The film garnered much controversy due to portrayal of the the state Punjab and it's drug driven youth. After suggesting around 89 cuts and to drop the name Punjab from the title by the CBFC, the film is now granted an 'A' certificate and is ready for it's release.
Anurag must be breathing a sigh of relief with this decision of the Censor board officials as he has won his battle against them.
CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani said, "#Udta Punjab has been passed by CBFC with an 'A' certificate. Reports of CBFC asking for movie's title to be removed is false." He also added "I follow the rule book, films are given certificate based on CBFC guidelines."
For the uninitiated, it all started when the CBFC board suggested some cuts and Anurag Kashyap refused to do so and went to the media instead. After the matter went to the Bombay High Court, it came with a decision that the film's intention is to "Save people" and "has not been made with a view to malign the state or its people."
Now the film will release on its initial release date which is June 17, 2016.
