Padmavati passed with no cuts, but 5 modifications clears CBFC

4th January 2018

Sugar coated as rumours suggesting that Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has ordered 26 cuts in 'Padmavati' is not true at all. Whereas the fact is that the CBFC has not suggested any cuts in this Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Magnus Opus, it has just asked the makers to make five necessary changes in order to get the movie a U/A certificate. This has been clarified by censor board chairperson M.R Prasoon Joshi.

Earlier on Saturday, CBFC followed an examining committee meeting that concluded said it has decided to give a U/A certificate to the movie subject to modifications. Prasoon Joshi told to an agency, "There are no cuts suggested in this film by CBFC, only five modifications." He said they have asked the makers to change the disclaimer "clearly to one that does not claim historical accuracy."

Regarding the film's title Padmavati, Joshi said the revised would be 'Padmavat' as the filmmakers have attributed their material/creative source as the fictional poem Padmavat and not history. Besides this they have demanded alterations in the "incorrect/misleading reference to historical places," Prasoon said.

CBFC has also asked the makers to modify the song 'Ghoomar' to make the depiction befitting the character being portrayed and also a disclaimer that the film in no manner subscribes to the practice of Sati or seeks to glorify it. About the changes, Prasoon said, "are completely in agreement with the filmmakers, the producers and director of the film."
