Cheryl Cole: I thought I would die of malaria

15th October 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Cheryl Cole wrote her will while suffering from malaria as she was convinced she was going to die.

The Girls Aloud singer contracted the disease following a holiday to Tanzania with her friend Derek Hough earlier this year. She collapsed at a photoshoot, and was later taken to hospital where she was found to be suffering from the tropical illness. Cheryl was treated in intensive care, before recuperating at a private clinic for a week.

The 27-year-old has now opened up about the period, revealing doctors gave her 24 hours to live at one point. I thought I was going to die, I actually thought I was going to die. I thought if Im going to die I want to die soon because I was in so much pain, she told Piers Morgan during a two-hour interview to be broadcast on British television station ITV on October 23.

It was after the assessment that Cheryl decided to pen her will.

The star also opened up about her recent divorce from soccer player Ashley Cole. The pair were married for three-and-a-half years, and split following allegations he was unfaithful. Cheryl admits she was devastated when the claims were made against the sportsman, and says she still has feelings for him.

I was a heartbroken girl. Part of me will always love him. Looking back on it I feel numb. We had a great marriage and a fantastic wedding day but I dont know where it went wrong. To this day I still question that, she said. Once we get over this obstacle, I hope we can be friends again. A part of me will always love Ashley.

The star judges UK talent programme The X Factor with Simon Cowell, who she says is a great friend. She explained they are pals because he understands what she is going through, and that sometimes she wishes she wasnt so famous.

I have a connection with him like no one else. He is one of the most important people in my life. He just gets me, she explained. Sometimes I feel completely trapped. I just cant go back to Newcastle and put on tracksuit bottoms and Ugg boots. (C) Cover Media
