The Congress party has decided to nominate Tollywood mega star Chiranjeevi to Rajya Sabha, following his Praja Rajyam Party's merger with the Congress in Andhra Pradesh. 

Chiranjeevi and Congress spokesperson Renuka Choudhary are among the nine candidates announced by the party on Sunday night for biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha.

Both Chiranjeevi and Choudhary are candidates from Andhra Pradesh as also Goverdhan Reddy. One candidate from Andhra Pradesh is yet to be announced, a party release said.

The Congress high Command, after several hours of consultations, has announced the name of Chiranjeevi, in a bid to appease his fans and also to develop the party's support base in Andhra Pradesh, sources say.
