(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Colin Firth thinks there are parallels between the main character in his new film and Eminem.
The 50-year-old British actor plays King George VI in upcoming movie The Kings Speech. In the film, Colin portrays the royal as he rises to the throne despite having to overcome a major stammer defect. Following intensive work with a speech therapist, King George manages to conquer the ailment to lead his country.
Colin feels that this portrayal is comparable to previous heroic tales in modern cinema citing the 2002 film 8 Mile staring rapper Eminem.
The popular hip-hop film follows a struggling young rapper who emerges victorious after a tough beginning, a theme recognised by Colin.
I remember finding parallels with 8 Mile, the Eminem film. There are elements in our structure that are quite archetypal the end speech announcing the outbreak of the Second World War being the big fight, or in 8 Mile when he comes back after having choked at the beginning, Colin told Empire magazine.
