Damon Albarn: Stylo was released too soon

30th December 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Damon Albarn blames his record label for the flop of Gorillaz last single Stylo.

The 42-year-old musician and Gorillaz songwriter thinks the reason the bands last release didnt get played on the radio as much as it should have done was because EMI wanted to release is in accordance with the financial year.

The former Blur singer said making the tune available early meant the group wasnt ready for it, and neither were radio stations because it sounded unique and unlike other mainstream songs.

[Stylo] is a legitimate radio song but EMI made us release it before we were ready, because they wanted it to be in the last financial year or something, he told NME. It didnt sound like anything else on the radio so it didnt get played.

Damon is hoping to release a new album with the Gorillaz soon, which is eagerly anticipated by fans. He has been recording new material in hotel rooms around America, and using new technology available via the iPad.

I hope Ill be making the first record on an iPad, he said. Which is ironic, being the sort of technophobe and Luddite that I am. But I fell in love with my iPad as soon as I got it, so Ive made a completely different kind of record. (C) Cover Media
