(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Daniel Radcliffe believes he would have developed a problem with alcohol even if he hadn't worked on Harry Potter.
The actor recently admitted he is teetotal as he had become concerned about how much he was drinking and the effect it was having on his life.
The star has played wizard in Harry Potter in the famed series of movies for the last ten years, with the final instalment Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 hitting screens this month. The 21-year-old insists he's enjoyed every second of being on set, and is adamant working from such a young age had no impact on his alcohol issues.
"I don't attribute any of that to being related to working on Potter. I think it probably would have been something that cropped up in my life had Potter never existed in my life," he explained to BBC Breakfast. "I was never drinking on set or anything like that as people are sort of speculating at the moment. Basically the sort of tweetable version was that I drank, my drinking led me to be unhappy and now I've stopped and I'm much happier. That's the end of the story."
Daniel admits there were certain things that happened to him which made him realise he was spinning out of control, but refused to go into them. He had "scares" but feels lucky nothing bad happened to him during that period.
The star can't believe the Harry Potter films are finally over. He attended the premiere in London's Leicester Square yesterday, where Emma Watson broke down in tears as emotions got the better of her.
"The overriding for me is pride because I'm just so proud of this last film in a way I haven't been of any of the other ones. I've been proud and pleased to be involved every step of the way and thrilled but this film is just light years ahead of anything else we've done. So to be leaving on that kind of note filled me with a lot of pride. There is a kind of bittersweetness," he said.
Daniel likened the movies to a girlfriend he's been with for a decade, but has to say goodbye to. The experience has been an overwhelmingly positive one for the young star, and he will always remember his time on set.
"[I've had] so many amazing opportunities to do weird, fantastic, bizarre stuff. Like spend 41 hours under water for the fourth film, or do a 40ft fall down a roof just stuff I probably won't get to do again in my career," he mused. "I'll miss that aspect of playing Harry. Playing such an emotionally complicated action hero is not something a lot of actors get the chance to do, I shall miss that." (C) Cover Media
