(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Audrey Tautou insists she'd have been totally fulfilled by working in the "shadows" of the movie industry.
The French has vowed critics and moviegoers alike with starring roles in movies such as Amlie and Coco Before Chanel. Despite her success she insists she never set out to be famous, and still struggles to accept what's happened to her life. That's part of the reason Audrey is so fiercely private she never discusses her personal life.
"That's my paradox. I like acting, I like playing, trying to disappear into the part but I don't like to be the centre of attention," she told the August edition of Marie Claire magazine. "I could have been fulfilled even if I had worked in the shadows. I would never have imagined it to become who I am today."
Audrey's best known role was in 2001's Amlie, about an innocent girl who finds love while helping people. It was a runaway success nominated for five Oscars - and many would expect Audrey to have been inundated with work offers after it hit screens. She insists that wasn't the case, explaining she never chased work.
"You really need to want it to be offered some roles in Hollywood. There are so many wonderful actresses who want to work there," she explained. "You're not going to ask the little one who's like, Oh no. But. Me?' Who's not especially interested. Also I don't want to be exposed too much and that's another reason why I was very happy to do The Da Vinci Code but I would never keep doing that." (C) Cover Media
