(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Debra Messing has spoken about her "traumatic" marriage breakdown.

The 43-year-old actress met Daniel Zelman at university in 1990 and they married ten years later.

In December, they confirmed they had gone their separate ways earlier in 2011 but were on cordial terms so they could both care for their son Roman, who was eight last month.

Debra relocated from Los Angeles to New York City last year so she could shoot her new TV show Smash. She found dealing with so many monumental changes in her life tough.

"Twenty years. It's a very long time. When I say the move to New York was traumatic, it was traumatic because every aspect of my life was going through a huge change," she told the June edition of Ladies' Home Journal.

The star is now dating her Smash co-star Will Chase and is philosophical about love. Although she believes in marriage, the actress thinks people need to be more realistic about relationships in general.

"I think the idea of a partner for life is incredibly romantic. But now we're living to 100. A hundred years ago people were dying at age 37. Till death do us part was a much different deal," she said.

Debra and Will's romance was first reported in December. They are thought to have fallen for each other on the set of Smash, but they have vowed to take things slowly.

"They had so many scenes together and they were playing people with a romantic past so it didn't seem odd," a source has previously explained. (C) Cover Media
