(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Robert Downey Jr. says talking to his baby son is like being on a "bad date".

The Hollywood star and his wife Susan welcomed Exton into the world in February. Robert already has son Indio, 18, from a previous marriage and admits that getting to grips with baby communication again has had its challenges.

In an interview on the Ellen DeGeneres Show - which airs today - Robert shared details of his son's progress.

"He's smiling and talking a little bit. It's incredible," Robert gushed.

"I go, 'What are we doing? What's happening?' He goes '[makes gibberish noise] and 'I go, really?'

"Kind of like a bad date with somebody who is really small."

When teased by Ellen that the "date" didn't sound very fun, Robert gushed about his new parental role.

"It's great. In this instance it is a great date," he laughed.
