Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis reportedly worked hard to "salvage" their romance.

The couple announced the end of their 14-year relationship earlier this month, following intense speculation they were on the rocks.

The pair hadn't been seen in public together since 2010 and it's been suggested they tried everything to stay together.

"Despite their problems, they wanted to salvage the relationship. Just a few weeks ago, Johnny was telling friends he hoped they could make it work," a source told the British edition of Grazia.

Over the last few months there have been rumours about the nature of Johnny's relationship with his The Rum Diary co-star Amber Heard. The pair have been seen in Las Vegas together and it's been suggested their close bond got to Vanessa.

"But when the stories about him and Amber surfaced, Vanessa decided she couldn't take it anymore," the insider added.

Earlier this week it was reported that Amber is single again after splitting from her long-term girlfriend.
