Eddie Izzard: Treasure Island is dark

6th July 2011

(Cover) - EN Movies - Eddie Izzard says drama Treasure Island is "darker" than the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

The 49-year-old British actor-and-comic is famed for roles in pictures such as Ocean's Twelve and Thirteen and Valkyrie.

The star is looking forward to showcasing a forthcoming two-part drama adaptation of adventure novel Treasure Island, which was first published in 1883, and Eddie will star as iconic pirate Long John Silver.

It is scheduled to be shown on British channel Sky1, and Eddie argues it will be very different to the hugely successful Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise, which stars Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow.

"Pirates of the Caribbean was very swashbuckling, ours is the Goodfellas version, darker," he told BBC Radio One.

"There's been about 50 versions of Treasure Island and most of them are not good."

Eddie shot the drama in Ireland and Puerto Rico, and underwent some dramatic style changes for the part by "cutting all [his] hair off".

He added how impressed he was by the elegant ship used for the movie and likened it to a flashy car.

"Years ago it was like having a Ferrari, having your own ship," he mused. (C) Cover Media
