Emma Watson: Yates was like father

14th July 2011

(Cover) - -No story type selected- - Emma Watson admits it was hard for director David Yates to come aboard midway through the Harry Potter series.

David made his directorial debut in the franchise with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and went on to direct the other final three movies, including the hotly anticipated Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.

Emma felt sorry for the director when he first started on the franchise as the cast and crew were so used to working together on the previous films.

"When David came on board, I think it was overwhelming for him to be the new guy, because we'd been there for so long, and the crew had been there for so long, and he was the new guy and he was meant to be in control," Emma told SciFi Now. "I think for anyone coming on board, it would have been hard."

Emma is glad that David helmed the last four movies in the series, as she believes having one director towards the end was invaluable. She even saw David as a paternal figure.

"Having the constant' of David Yates has been a good thing, because it's such a huge undertaking and there are so many people involved," she added. "Having that father figure was important." (C) Cover Media
