Ewan McGregor scared of singing

3rd May 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Ewan McGregor was petrified of singing in Moulin Rouge! because it was the first time the sound of his voice had really mattered.

The actor played Christian in the Baz Luhrmann-directed musical movie, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary. Nicole Kidman appeared as Christians love interest Satine, with both stars performing many popular songs in the release.

While Ewan was delighted to win the role, he admits approaching it with some trepidation.

I had never sung like I was expected to sing for Moulin Rouge!, where the singing was a part of the storytelling and not just part of the character. I've only ever sung as a character, if you like, before, where if my singing wasn't very good, it didn't matter," he said. "It had to be on a certain level... We certainly did a lot of singing training.

Christian and Satine performed a sultry tango in the movie, dancing to Polices song Roxanne. It was a highlight for the Scottish star, who admits hed love to team up with Nicole again in the future.

I think I like the tango, he told MTV News.

There's something really desperate and fantastic about the tango. And I'll never forget walking down through the rows of dancers really upset and singing. That was fantastic. (C) Cover Media
