George Clooney has offered to take Tony Bennett "anywhere [he] wants to go" after revealing he used to be the singer's driver.
The American actor spoke to the musical legend on the red carpet at the 84th Academy Awards last night.
George was in the running for the best actor trophy for his role in The Descendants, although it eventually went to Jean Dujardin for The Artist. He took his girlfriend Stacy Keibler along to the ceremony and was delighted to introduce her to Tony.
"Tony, this is Stacy. I was his driver when I was 19," George admitted.
"I'll still drive you anywhere you wanna go."
Access Hollywood was standing nearby and heard the discussion, so quizzed the Hollywood star about the topic some more.
George explained he worked in the position for just three weeks.
Although he felt he did a good job, Tony didn't remember him when George raised the topic a while ago. After some discussion the 85-year-old star eventually recalled the period.
"He was very good. He had to tell me about it many years later," Tony laughed. "He actually drove me somewhere and I didn't know who he was."
The singer now has a clear memory of the work George did and is delighted to see how his career has taken off. The star took a moment to wish the Hollywood icon well before the Oscars ceremony began.
"I'm so proud of you," Tony said. "You're doing everything right."
