Meryl Streep feels "sadly" about her win at last night's Academy Awards.
The Hollywood icon explained that she had picked up the pre-Oscar vibe online and knew that a large section of the public weren't rooting for her.
The Iron Lady star triumphed in the best actress category, where she was up against Michelle Williams, Rooney Mara, Viola Davis and Glenn Close.
"Sadly," she told ET Online when asked how she felt about her win. "I had been reading the blogs in the awards run-up and I had a fairly full sense of how the momentum was going I felt that 'Oh, God, half of America is really mad now that I won.'"
Meryl referred to her fears that people didn't want her to win as she collected her third best actress Oscar yesterday.
"When you called my name, I had this feeling I could hear half of America going, 'Oh, come on, why her again?'...But whatever!" the star said during her acceptance speech.
The Help actress Octavia Spencer has also revealed her feelings on taking home one of the coveted trophies.
The star was named best supporting actress for her portrayal of Minny Jackson in the hit movie.
Octavia said she was so overwhelmed by her success she could hardly walk up to the stage to accept her Oscar and added she has completely forgotten what she said in her acceptance speech.
"There was noise and applause and then complete silence in my head," she said. "It was one of those moments when all you hear is your heartbeat and you don't remember your name."
